Proximity to the Lost Discussion Guide

Sermon Outline

BIG IDEA:  Jesus came near to sinners on purpose, and our salvation is the result of His proximity and the faithfulness of those who came before us. Now, He pastors us, trains us, and sends us so that others might be found. Practicing Christianity without living on mission is pointless, because eternity is at stake and the time is urgent.

Discussion Questions

  1. Why do you think Jesus made a habit of being close to people others avoided (like tax collectors, sinners, and outcasts)? What does that show us about His heart for the lost, and what does it challenge in us?
  2. Who was the “domino” in your life — the person who helped you come closer to Jesus? Who might God be asking you to be a domino for right now?
  3. In Matthew 4:19, Jesus said, “I will make you fishers of men.” What are some practical ways you can point people to Jesus in your everyday routines (work, school, friendships)?
  4. 2 Thessalonians 1 and 2 Peter 3 remind us that time is urgent. How does remembering eternity change the way we live and share our faith right now?
  5. Jesus doesn’t just save us — He pastors us (forgives, heals, restores, renews). Which of those do you most need Him to do in your life today? Why?
