Proximity to God
Graycommunitychurch   -

Proximity to God is the key that unlocks clarity, strength, and fullness in the Christian life. Paul prays in Ephesians 3 that we would grasp and know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge—not from a distance, but by being rooted in His presence and with His people. Like so many before us, we find peace, purpose, and power when we choose closeness with Him over busyness and distraction.

Discussion Questions

1. In Ephesians 3:16–17, Paul prays that believers would be strengthened by the Spirit in their inner being so that Christ may dwell in their hearts. What does it look like in your daily life to be strengthened from the inside out instead of just managing things externally?

2. Paul says God’s love is wide, long, high, and deep (Eph. 3:18). Which part of that do you need most right now?

  • Wide “Right now I need the wide love of God—to remind me His arms are open no matter how far I’ve drifted.”
  • Long “Right now I need the long love of God—to know He won’t give up on me even in this hard season.”
  • High → “Right now I need the high love of God—to lift my eyes above my problems and give me hope.”
  • Deep “Right now I need the deep love of God—to reach into the parts of my heart I don’t share with anyone else.”

3. In Luke 10, Jesus said Mary had chosen the better part by sitting at His feet while Martha was distracted by serving. What do you think made Mary’s choice so significant, and how might it challenge your own rhythms?

4. What barriers (busyness, distraction, pride, lack of hunger, etc.) most often pull you out of proximity to God, and how can you take one step this week to remove them? How could you live out proximity in practical ways with God this week?
